CSE has developed a new process of environmental problem solving based on the belief that answers arise from the process of study and analysis rather than from a predetermined set of findings. Our scientists seek objective, rational, scientifically-based solutions. CSE research bridges the gap between basic academic investigation and real-life application.

CSE offers a broad range of capabilities to communities, citizens groups, industry, and governmental agencies. Our capabilities include:

  • Providing independent and innovative approaches to solving environmental problems and policy issues (see Mono Lake Study)
  • Addressing environmental concerns with advanced application of data bases (see Salmon Study)
  • Solving environmental problems with community outreach programs (see Salmon Study)
  • Developing forecasting methods and computer modeling for natural resource management (see JABOWA III)
  • Leading innovative resource management workshops by bringing together experts from many disciplines, citizens groups, corporate representatives, and diverse governmental agencies
  • Providing statistical analyzes of available data on environmental issues (see Salmon Study)
  • Drawing upon local citizen expertise and knowledge as an aid to solving environmental problems (see Salmon Study)
  • Utilizing historical information to understand natural ecosystems (see Salmon Study, Mono Lake Study)
  • Providing environmental education through lectures, publications and public forums (see Salmon Study)
  • Preparing “roadmaps” to guide communities in the development of land use plans
  • Training scientists and technicians in the use of advanced computer methodologies for analysis of environmental issues
  • Developing and providing training in new approaches for ecosystem management and adaptive management
  • Providing guidance in industrial and non-industrial forestry (see JABOWA III)
