RESEARCH AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES:

Areas of Professional Expertise:

Stream/river ecosystem structure and function. General stream ecosystem theory with special emphasis on land-water interactions, especially sources and fates of organic matter from the riparian zone. Functional group analysis of stream organisms and factors that regulate their growth and mortality.

Theses Directed:

12 Ph.D., 14 MS completed; 1 Ph.D. in progress. Thesis topics include: ecological energetics, watershed land-water interactions. stream invertebrates, zooplankton ecology and environmental physiology, stream primary production and community metabolism. insect neural-endocrine morphology, aquatic fungi. and stream ecology and fire effects in Yellowstone National Park.
